The bowmen continued firing mostly futile arrows at the enemy troops they were just too well armoured though, so they damaged them but little. Ling Feng racked his brains for a solution but could come up with none all that ran around his head was a single thought. I must hold out. I must hold out...

The men moved out so each of the bucket chain was protected by a swordsmen with a shield, thus ending any threat of the bowmen on the rooftops. The yewbow archers and archers returned fire, the former with sniping shots and the latter with large sweeping volleys to clear them out of their perches.

There was little to be done for the bowmen, few were quick enough to duck for cover and Ling Feng winced and turned away as many shafts struck home. Not the best of tactics and bad tactics cost lives something that was reinforced painfully here. The few survivors retreated back to the narrow barricade, which was barely wide enough for fifty men. The perfect place in fact.

Kay Damu saw where they had retreated to and cursed, even if they used the catapult, it was all too likely that the projectile would miss and take out the buildings, blocking the path even worse. No, it seemed that the next ground to be taken would have to be paid for in blood, the blood of both sides. Kay could not say he was looking forward to it.

The light spearmen all crowded into the narrow space, spacing themselves out into several ranks while in between them militia stood the formation was so densely packed that arrows would have trouble getting in without hitting some sort of protection, the enemy would just have to come and get them...

Kay Damu put his men into a tortoise shell formation, with the swordsmen providing the fifty wide protection at the front, while the other forty made the roof of the formation. Dispersed in amongst them were the heavy spearmen, who once again came to the front to dislodge them from their next entrenched position.

They could do little but wait, their anxiety tore at them the feeling of helplessness, and Ling Feng sent the men not in the wall back to the next barricade but they were fast running out of room.

Seeing there was little resistance Ling Feng could offer, being in a difficult position, Kay Damu pressed the assault, the formation coming up to the barricade, where the fighting erupted furiously. The swordsmen hacked at the spears of the enemy, while the heavy spearmen jabbed with their own weapons. Meanwhile, the catapult was wheeled up into position, finally, and all of the lightswordsmen went into houses on either side of the barricade in order to go out of the other side and surround it.

Since most of Ling Feng's men had already retreated he quickly saw what Kay Damu was doing, so he ordered the men to fall back on the next barricade and leave this one to the enemy. There was only so long this attack could go on Ling Feng was relying on this.

Well, now the next stage was up, as the men retreated to the next barricade the catapult was wheeled into position quickly, while the cavalry mustered. A mounted unit would break this next resistance. The enemy stood no chance!

Ling Feng smiled grimly they would not. Would not. Be broken by a cavalry charge. He demanded that the light spearmen came to the front of the unit so that the horses would be faced with a multitude of sharp points. No victory for Li Damu's men.

As the cavalry charge spotted the spears, they shore off to either side and headed back up the street, revaling the catapult in all its glory, promptly unleashing its payload towards the other end of the street and the barricade. Kay Damu was a better tactician than people gave him credit for.
