I suggest that you can trade in upgrade items (e.g if you bought a level 1, you could then exchange it along with 2000 gold for a level 3)

Looking at Alain's profile I saw he listed his militia as "men-at-arms" in keeping with his background as the son of a rural baron.
How about we can customise our troops?
I mean, give them better armour, or change their weapons, to create a kind of force which suits us.

Hmm... it is a good idea, though certain changes may rule the troops to become higher level.
We don't want too many complications.
