Since Tae Ling's men had a larger frontage, they were able to overlap the lightswordsmen, this allowed them to assail them from both sides, and also attack the archers behind them. Meanwhile, his light spearmen ran to join in with the battle.

Seeing that Li Damu's men were close to escaping, the horsemen rode all the harder to catch up with them, although, with their inferior mounts, they were likely not to yet catch up.

Li Damu's men cleared the line of the trenches, their horses leaping over the obstruction, before stopping to regard their pursuers. Meanwhile, the archers loosed a volley at their attackers and charged to meet them with daggers.

The miltia gleefully met the charge, their weapons ensuring a victory for them over the long ranged archers. Tae Ling was anxious- if the battle did not end soon, then they would lose! He could not let that happen.

Zhuge Hong's men did not hesitate to follow their foes over the barrier of trenches. Why would they? Their horses could jump just as well and he wondered why the enemy thought they would have any scruples about jumping the gap. Meanwhile, the foot troops continued their meat grinding fight, lcoked together in deadly combat.

As the horsemen of Zhuge Hong leapt the trench, Yei Chian's light spearmen ran into place and impaled the jumping horses on their spears, often leaving five light spearmen to a horse. There was no way they could avoid being skewered in such a way, and now Zhuge Hong was in trouble.
Li Damu slowly rode his horse back to his own lines, wincing each time he was jolted in the saddle. His part in the battle, at least, was over.

(hands up, if you hate Damu! Hands up, if you hate Damu! ) Zhuge Hong cursed loudly as those around him were slain, leaving him stranded on his own, well, not for long if had anything to say about it. He wheeled his horse and fled back towards his own lines, hoping the sudden movement would throw his enemies off guard.

Rei Rin saw Zhuge Hong's attempt to escape and rode after him, pushing her horse hard so that she drew alongside him. "Fight me coward!" she yelled as the wind whipped past. Meanwhile, the spearmen and cavalry headed for the large fight in the centre in an attempt to push it into their favour.

(tch, not another one!)
Tae Ling saw how well his ploy was going- the men of Zao Teng were still wading through a swamp, and it would be a simple matter to finish them off. However, it seemed as though his tactics would not carry the day, there were far too many of the enemy left, and not enough time to kill them.
