Tier/level 1
Miltia (sword)
Miltia are basic soldiers, with neither good weaponary or decent armour, they will quickly be decimated by troops they are disadvantaged against (see general rules thread) However, they are cheap, and in numbers they will be able to take on other troops, just don't expect a small casualty rate!
Horsemen (mounted)
These are basic cavalry, they aren't particularly fast (in comparison) as their horses aren't proper warhorses, since they lack proper training, a disciplined formation of foot troops could take them on. Best used as harrying units, or to chase down borken enemies. All have a sabre.
Light spearmen (spear)
Lightly armoured and armed with spears around five feet long, they are perfectly suited to a hedgehog formation, which shows nothing put a forest of sharp points. However, caution should be urged, while they are perfect troops against cavalry, they are bait for archers and easy prey for swords unless well used.
Bowmen (bow)
Cheap, but also inaccurate and short ranged when compared to other bow troops. If they stay at a distance, nothing can beat them, however their weakness is their range, which will give troops enough time to get close and tear them to pieces.
Their armaments are shortbows and short swords.
Tier/level 2
Lightswordsmen (sword)
Already these are much improved over the miltia, they are armed with proper weapons (long swords) and proper armour (if light) they are great when attacking in numbers and they are a lot more durable than their level 1 counterparts.
Berzerkers (axe)
Wielding axes alongside ordinary shields, Berzerkers charge into battle with screaming frenzy. Nigh on impossible to break in combat, but little armoured and easily decimated by bowfire. Use with caution, as it is easy for them to spiral out of control.
Cavalry (horse)
Armed with lances and proper sabres, and armoured well with good horses cavalry are good at breaking enemy sword formations, however, if they are shielded or well deployed, they should not be used this way as they are not heavy shock troops and a strongly fired arrow will pierce their armour.
Spearmen (spear)
Their spears are reinforced slightly more than those of the level 1 variety, meaning they break less, and their armour is better, however, they will still suffer from bowfire, so are best used with other soldiers protecting them.
Halberdiers (Halberd)
Tough soldiers armed with halberds; a cross between an axe and a spear. They're better fighters than your average spearman but not quite on a par with Berzerkers. Best used as a speed bump of sorts as they are capable of keeping even superior troops bogged down.
Archers (bows)
Wearing tough leather armour and using longbows, archers are a great deal better than bowmen, their range is superior, but the cumbersome weapons mean that they can only use daggers at close range, which would spell disaster in hand to hand combat.
Tier/level 3
Swordsmen (sword)
These stalwart warriors are the best armed and armoured so far, they use large shields as well as their blades, which means they are ideally suited to defense and heavy formations.
Axemen (axe)
Tough, hard fighters, wiht armour on par with swordsmen. They are armed with double headed axes which can cleave through most armour. They make very good attack troops, and are ideal for a hard hitting assault.
Brigadiers (horse)
Now these are shock troops, their lances are much stronger, and they have both sabre and sword, they can dismount and fight on par with most other sword troops and their horses are as well trained as they are. However, all this ability comes with a high price and they are quite expensive.
Heavy spearmen (spear)
Heavy spearmen use thick and heavy spears, which are tough to carry and difficult to deploy, but once planted they prove almost impossible to budge, they are best used in combat with swordsmen, because even though their armour is thick and sturdy, some shots can still pierce it.
Yew bow archers (bow)
Men who use the Yew bow are the best scout troops there are, they are ideal for performing raids and ambushes, and their bows have a very long range, however, they have no armour, so even the slightest strike can cause wounds. They also have long swords which they use about on the level of a lightswordsman.
Tier/level 4
Elite swordsmen (sword)
They are similar to the level 3 strain, however, while they carry the same equipment, they wield them with much greater skill than the level 3s do, meaning they are both stronger and more potent troops.
Elite cavalry (horse)
The elite mounted troops are the perfect hit and run troops, armed with both bows and swords, they dart around the enemy, driving them to distraction with pin prick raids. However, since they are neither one thing nor the other they do not excel at either discipline, and their speed is the reward of less defense.
Pikemen (spear)
With the longest weapon out of them all, these weapons can make a unforgiving formation of spikes and point. But, since the weapons are so difficult to use they are forced to use less armour.
Expert archers (bow)
While their range is similar to a yew bow, their accuracy is even better, best suited to firing in formation, these versatile troops can give even the best armoured foes trouble.
Tier/level 5
Swordmaster (sword)
Unparralled masters of the sword, they are armoured in light yet tough armour, all wield two blades, from short swords and dagger to pairs of katanas. All are used with equal skill.
Horsemasters (horse)
As one with their horses, horsemasters can perform the most amazing feats while on horseback. They are fast assault troops yet lightly armoured, armed with throwing spears and long swords, both of which are used with remarkable skill, they are the best cavalry on offer.
Master spearmen (spear)
The best spear wielding troops in the land, they carry throwing spears, short spears and standard (spearman) spears, they can deploy each and every one masterfully, and even swordsmen will struggle against them in combat.
Lethal archers (bow)
Not one of these men worth their salt ever misses a shot on a stationary target, moving grants some leiniency, but they are known for shooting enemy archers through arrow slits at maximum (the best) range, most charging formation will be killed before reaching them, and they are best used as skirmishers, a scattered formation where they have to be caught one by one.
